The Atlantic Immigration Pilot Program (AIPP) was created to help skilled workers and recent graduates move to one of Canada’s four Atlantic provinces. New Brunswick, Nova Scotia, Prince Edward Island, or Newfoundland and Labrador. The goal of the program was to support labour needs in these regions and help newcomers settle successfully.
The original pilot has now transitioned into the permanent Atlantic Immigration Program (AIP), but the structure and purpose remain similar.
Who Can Apply
You may qualify if you are:
- A skilled worker with relevant job experience.
- A recent graduate from a recognized post-secondary institution in an Atlantic province.
In both cases, applicants must have a job offer from a designated employer in one of the Atlantic provinces, which is a core requirement of the Atlantic Immigration Pilot Program. This job offer must be full-time, non-seasonal, and supported by an employer who has been officially approved by the province to hire international workers.
Key Eligibility Requirements
Job Offer
You must have a full-time, non-seasonal job offer from an employer designated under the program.
Work Experience or Education
- Skilled Workers: At least one year of experience in a relevant occupation within the last three years.
- Graduates: A 2-year (or longer) diploma or degree from a recognized institution in an Atlantic province and proof that you lived in the region during your studies.
Language Requirements
Applicants must prove proficiency in English or French with a minimum required score (often CLB/NCLC 4 or higher).
proof of Funds
Applicants who are not already working in Canada must show they have enough funds to support themselves and any dependents upon arrival.
What’s the Process?
- Secure a Job Offer from a designated employer in an Atlantic province.
- Obtain a Provincial Endorsement with help from your employer.
- Apply for Permanent Residence once your endorsement is approved.
- You may also apply for a temporary work permit while waiting for your PR to be processed.
Why People Choose AIP
- Simpler eligibility compared to some other Canadian immigration programs.
- Direct pathway to permanent residency.
- Designed to support real labour needs in Atlantic Canada, which can improve the chances of receiving a job offer.
- Welcoming communities and strong settlement support to help newcomers integrate.
Recent Updates
- The original Atlantic Immigration Pilot Program has ended.
- The new Atlantic Immigration Program (AIP) is now permanent and continues to help newcomers settle in Atlantic Canada.
- Many requirements remain the same: designated employers, job offers, sufficient funds, and language qualifications.
